Building & Campaign

A Vision Taking Shape for Children, Families, and the Region

The Grand Forks Children’s Museum has broken ground, and a new destination for play-based learning, creativity, and community connection is becoming visible.

More than a Building

The Grand Forks Children’s Museum has broken ground, and the vision is becoming visible. But the building has always been the beginning.

What brings the museum to life will be the experiences inside and around it: hands-on exhibits, programs that deepen learning, outdoor spaces that invite year-round exploration, and community partnerships that make the museum accessible and meaningful for families across the region.

This is a place being built for today’s children and for generations to come.

Designed to Welcome, Connect & Inspire

The future museum is being designed as a bright, accessible, and flexible destination where learning can happen everywhere: in galleries, classrooms, gathering spaces, outdoor areas, and shared community spaces.

Welcoming by Design

A clear entry, grand lobby, guest services, reading nooks, and gathering spaces will help families feel oriented, comfortable, and ready to explore from the moment they arrive.

Connected to the Region

The building and outdoor spaces reflect the landscapes, industries, seasons, and spirit of the Red River Valley, creating a museum that feels rooted in this place.

Built for Flexibility

Classrooms, event spaces, outdoor plazas, studios, and gathering areas will allow the museum to support school visits, public programs, private events, camps, celebrations, and community partnerships.

A New Destination on Grand Forks' Destination Corridor

Located at 1660 S. 42nd St., the museum will sit along Grand Forks’ Destination Corridor, south of the Alerus Center and near the upcoming Altru Sports Complex. The site is designed to welcome visitors indoors and outdoors, with space for gathering, learning, play, and community events.

Inside the Future Museum

Inside, the museum will be designed for movement, curiosity, gathering, and connection. From the grand lobby to flexible classrooms and community spaces, each area will help support joyful learning and meaningful shared experiences.
