The Impact of Small Donations: A Big Difference for the Grand Forks Children's Museum

In a world where we often hear about grand gestures and sizeable charitable contributions, it's easy to underestimate the power of small donations. However, when it comes to supporting the project to build the Grand Forks Children's Museum, truly every dollar counts.

I am the proud mother of four children and the former principal of a local school. Throughout my tenure as both a principal and as a mom, I've witnessed countless acts of generosity, but today's act from my youngest son, Camden, truly touched my heart. He "sold" two pieces of artwork that he created during Full STEAM Ahead and, along with the $5 he earned by helping his grandma, donated the

money to the Grand Forks Children’s Museum. Camden came into the office proudly holding his $45 and made the donation himself. He keeps asking how much more we need and is determined to continue donating anything he earns from selling art and doing chores. Needless to say, my heart is full, and I am overwhelmed by Camden’s thoughtfulness and generosity.

Here's why every donation, whether big or small, can make a big difference

Accessibility and Inclusion…Children's museums are vital spaces where young minds flourish through interactive exhibits and hands-on learning. However, maintaining and expanding these experiences requires continuous funding. Even a modest donation can help provide materials for new exhibits, subsidize admission fees for underprivileged families, refresh dwindling exhibit supplies, or support educational programs that make the museum accessible to all children, regardless of their background.

Building Our Community…Small donations from numerous community members collectively create a strong foundation for the museum. Community support fosters a sense of ownership and pride, ensuring that the museum remains a vibrant hub for local families. When everyone contributes - even a small amount - that donation amplifies the museum's ability to serve as a community cornerstone of learning and discovery.

Sustainability…Regular small donations provide a reliable stream of income, which is crucial for the museum's operational stability. These contributions help cover day-to-day expenses, ensuring that the museum will continue to function smoothly and plan for future growth. It's the consistent backing from donors that keeps the museum's doors open and its exhibits fresh and engaging.

Personal Impact…Giving, no matter the amount, also has a profound personal impact. That donation connects the donor to a cause, instills a sense of purpose, and creates a ripple effect of generosity. When you contribute to the Grand Forks Children's Museum, you're not just making a financial donation, you're investing in the future of countless children who will benefit from the educational opportunities the museum provides.

Never underestimate the power of a contribution – large or small. Small donations are the lifeblood of museums, driving the mission to inspire, educate, and entertain the next generation. Financial support, no matter the size, helps create a world where every child has the chance to explore, learn, and grow.

Next time you consider giving, remember that even the smallest donation can light up a child's world. The thought of building the Grand Forks Children’s Museum lights up my youngest son’s heart and mind. His $45 donation goes a long way…
