The Moment It Started to Look Like a Museum

There’s a moment in every big dream when the abstract becomes real, when lines on a blueprint turn into something you can stand inside, touch, and imagine filling with laughter. For the Grand Forks Children’s Museum, that moment has arrived.

The walls are going up.

What had been an open foundation and skeletal steel framework just days ago is now rising into shape. The first outlines of a place meant for joy and discovery. With the walls standing, the building suddenly feels more alive, more real, more ready to welcome the community that has been cheering it forward.

Our team felt it immediately. There’s a different kind of energy on site now, a sense of momentum, pride, and awe. One of the construction crew members smiled as he looked across the framing and said, “This is the happiest building we’ve ever put up.” And he’s right. Every wall represents a future moment of wonder.

For our community, this milestone is more than construction progress. It’s a promise taking shape. Grand Forks families have dreamed of a children’s museum for years, and seeing these walls rise is a reminder that this project belongs to all of us: parents, educators, kids, donors, volunteers, and neighbors who believed in what this space could mean.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, however, this milestone deserves celebration. Our Grand Forks Children’s Museum has started to look like a museum.

After the walls, the next up is the roof and once the building is fully enclosed, the interior walls, finishes, and systems can begin. All summer long, the goal has been to get this structure sealed before winter, and with the walls rising right on schedule, it looks like we’re on track.
